Newsflash

Pictured above:  Brian Salesky, General Director & Conductor of the Knoxville Opera, along with U.T. Graduate Students Maria Natale and Boris VanDruff, performing various vocal selections during the August Enrichment program at the Bill Jones School of Music.

Perhaps Boris VanDruff said it best as he addressed the students of Jeanie Melton and Bill Jones Music.  "When I was your age I hated Opera.  I thought it was a bunch of guys in Viking costumes singing with swords and shields in a foreign language."

But Brian Salesky put those rumors to rest as he opened the Musical Enrichment session asking, "How many of you have been to an Opera?"  NO hands went up.  Pointing to his shirt that said, "I love Opera", Brian went on to explain that Opera simply meant "A story told in music."  He then asked, "How many of you have seen a Disney story told in Music?"  All hands went up.  "Then you've been to an opera."

From that point on the musical adventure turned into a reward well worth the time these music students spend on an otherwise uneventful Saturday evening.

Our many thanks to Mr. Salesky, Mrs. Natale and Mr. VanDruff for spending their valuable time educating and entertaining our young group of piano students.

Our August Enrichment program was done in cooperation with Local Music Teacher and performer Jeanie Melton of Knoxville.  Students at The School of Music at Bill Jones Music are invited one Saturday a month to an Enrichment activity designed to stimulate interest and encourage ongoing participation in music.  These activities are included at no additional charge to the students and their parents enrolled at Bill Jones Music.
